Worked but faffy

"As the other reviewer mentioned you need to cut away a bit to access- see pic below. It glued back together again but if they had the connector in a different place I would have just needed to split the forward section and not cut into the cockpit"

Replacing gear box in F4U RTF foam RC plane

"Parts were of good quality, just like original. The major issue in replacing the gear box is removal of the old unit, which means that half of the cowling needs to be cut away. The gear box is glued in place and that needs to be carefully cut from the fuselage. I used UHU por glue to attach the new gear box and the foam cowling that was removed."

Good Motor AAA

"not sure if Ex Hobby updated these motors for Volantex, but they are smoother and quicker than OEM Volantex 400mm motors."

The engines and gear boxes

"The engines and gear boxes we're delivered in a timely manner and you can't beat the price. The priduct is very easy to install with the plugs already attached. I'm not sure about how dependable it is yet because i haven't had time to fly my 400mm qar bird much suce the new installation. So far i highly recommend the product and will for sure order more when needed."

Q&A

Are the motors as pictured(empty shaft, no wires) or do they have the appropriate gear and wires required to install it to the plane?
T
Yes, my model has a hole in the bottom rear of the fuselage, directly underneath the star logo. Thus I assume I have the "repair hole" version? FYI, my son nose dived the plane into the ground, split open the front of the fuselage. I tried to glue it together with super glue, and maybe was too generous with the use of glue and I believe some went into the motor. I bought him a another plane, but now I want to fix this one so I can play also :) If you can confirm which repair kit I need, and also how to properly repair fuselage splits - this would be wonderful.
Tim, I had the same problem with glue on gears following a similar repair. I was able to chip the glue off and free the gear with a skill knife. I also used the 2 set engine and gearbox to replace on both a P51 and BF109 that I had wrecked. Not really too hard to do. Just be careful soldering in the new engine. The styrofoam is easy to burn. Hope this helps. Bobby
How can I tell the difference between the old style and the newer version with the "repairing hole"
If you turn the model over and look at the cowling area, there is a small, removable section of cowling that allows access to the back of the motor. In my experience however, it is not helpful. I have cut the front end of my aircraft off at the what would be the motor mount area, and made the motor/cowling assy removable for easy fixes and modifications.
